Tribute to Childe Hassam

This week we are paying homage to renowned American impressionist painter, Childe Hassam, who was born on October 17th, 1859. As one of the artists who propelled impressionism into American consciousness, Hassam’s artwork continues to be treasured by collectors, artists, and museums today.

Modern Portraits

Portraits in the Now” is our newest exhibition in the Upper Gallery! Through media such as charcoal, graphite, photography, and oil, this exhibition features a wide range of portraits by our artist members. Notably, many artists interpreted “in the now” differently—some chose a portrait image in a modernist style, while others created a portrait that speaks to present-day life. The classic interpretation is on view as well.

A Closer Look at Laureen Hylka's Cape Ann Residency

Each year, an artist member at the Copley Society of Art is chosen to be the artist-in-residence at Cape Ann. Established by the Charles Family Foundation in 2014, in collaboration with the Cape Ann Museum and the Copley Society of Art, the residency gives Copley artists the opportunity to have a month-long stay on the North Shore to work on their craft.
