Mayor Martin J. Walsh has proclaimed April 24, 2016 Fresh Paint Day in Boston. On Sunday, April 24th, artists from the Copley Society of Art will set up their easels around the greater Boston area to paint original works featuring some of the most treasured locations and landmarks of the area. The 28th edition of Fresh Paint will conclude with a gala at Co|So on Thursday, May 5th, during which all works will be up for silent auction.

Artists will bring their newly painted works back to the gallery at 158 Newbury Street to be displayed for two weeks. Bidding for the silent auction will begin April 26th and will culminate with the Gala on Thursday, May 5th, from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. One of the most vibrant events of the Copley Society’s year, the evening will include wine, hors d’oeuvres, music, and auction of the freshly painted works. Tickets for the Gala may be purchased at: www.freshpaint2016.eventbrite.com.

Established in 1988, Co|So’s Fresh Paint was one of the first plein air painting events with an accompanying auction. The fundraiser supports innovative exhibitions of emerging and established artists, lectures, scholarships, residencies, and outreach programs. Fresh Paint is the gallery’s biggest and most important fundraiser, as Co|So does not receive funding from local, state, or federal sources.

Founded 137 years ago, membership of the Copley Society of Art has grown to include more than 300 artists. Although most are based in the New England area, countless Co|So artists are from across the United States and abroad. Membership is determined by a competitive review held three times a year. By joining Co|So, artists are offered an opportunity to exhibit their work year round in our Newbury Street gallery, partake in artist workshops and discussions, and further their careers through solo shows, residencies and exhibitions.
