SUMMARY:National Show Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:The Copley Society of Art is thrilled to present the National Show: Intersections an exhibition juried by Almitra Stanely\, the director of Boston Sculpture’s Gallery and founder of Art Maven Consulting. On view from July 9th – August 8th\, this exhibition explores the dynamic spaces where paths cross and ideas converge. Artists were encouraged to reflect on the tensions that emerge when forces such as social\, cultural\, and political – collide and reshape one another. In a world shaped by connection and division\, Intersections sought dialogue from artworks that magnify spaces where differences encounter one other and something new may emerge. \n\nPlease join us for the opening reception on July 11th from 4:00 – 6:00PM at the Copley Society of Art.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Wandering the City\, Artwork by Chris Firger
DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin us for the opening recepetion of Chris Firger’s Solo Show\, Wandering the City\, a celebration of Boston’s neighborhoods\, communities\, architecture\, and natural beauty. After years of painting New England and Massachusetts\, this exhibition is Firger’s first foray into capturing the city that he called home for nearly a decade. He studied at McGill University in Montreal\, Quebec and currently works out of his studio in Salem\, Massachusetts. In Firger’s own words: “… My work invites the viewer to create their own narrative about a given place or moment in time\, layering their own experiences on top of the image I’ve put in front of them. My ultimate goal as an artist is to inspire others to reconnect with\, appreciate\, and protect the natural world and the communities around them.” \nWe hope you’ll join us for the Opening Reception on Saturday\, May 30\, 4:00 – 6:00 PM \n

SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Sandra Samaha's Meditations in Paper
DESCRIPTION:  \nCo|So is proud to present Sandra Samaha’s Meditations in Paper\, on view in the Upper Gallery from April 23 to May 23. Through multimedia collage\, Samaha explores how layered images can represent the past\, present and future; asking what is\, what was\, and what could be. \nAfter studying printmaking at Skidmore College and the University of New Hampshire\, Samaha began selling her serigraphs and etchings at local galleries. Frustrated with the limitations of her printing press and inspired by her love of quilts and woven textiles\, she eventually discovered collage as a more natural medium for conveying her artistic visions. \nSamaha sees collage as an empowering tool that allows her to navigate her faith and the complex ethical issues of our time. For twenty-five years Sandra taught art and art history at the high school level\, often telling her students that “art is a reflection of the time period in which it was produced.” With an appreciation of the “slow read” inherent to the medium\, Samaha notes that her collages are “like the truth we seek\, requiring careful observation\, investigation and contemplation to discern.” \nWe hope you’ll join us for the opening reception held at the gallery Thursday\, April 23 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Stop by to meet the artist!
