SUMMARY:Artist Trading Card Event
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a casual afternoon of making “artist trading cards” with artist member Michelle Mendez. \n\n\n\n\nArtist trading cards are miniature works of art created on 2.5 x 3.5 inch cardstock\, and made to be traded rather than sold. \nFor our event at the gallery\, we’ll have tables set up for creating the cards\, and the opportunity to trade with other artists at the end of the afternoon if you choose to do so! \nWe will have some limited supplies on hand\, including cards cut down to size\, but artists are encouraged to bring their own preferred dry or water-based media. \nThis event is free\, with a suggested $5 donation. \n  \nImage Credit: Kolaj Magazine

SUMMARY:National Show Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:The Copley Society of Art is thrilled to present the National Show: Intersections an exhibition juried by Almitra Stanely\, the director of Boston Sculpture’s Gallery and founder of Art Maven Consulting. On view from July 9th – August 8th\, this exhibition explores the dynamic spaces where paths cross and ideas converge. Artists were encouraged to reflect on the tensions that emerge when forces such as social\, cultural\, and political – collide and reshape one another. In a world shaped by connection and division\, Intersections sought dialogue from artworks that magnify spaces where differences encounter one other and something new may emerge. \n\nPlease join us for the opening reception on July 11th from 4:00 – 6:00PM at the Copley Society of Art.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception for Resonance of the Ordinary
DESCRIPTION:The Copley Society of Art is proud to present Resonance of the Ordinary\, a selection of realist still life paintings that celebrate how small moments and everyday objects resonate with our senses. \nThe show brings together three distinctive voices: Paul Beckingham\, whose floral and narrative still lifes invite viewers to unravel stories through thoughtful color and lighting; Kristen Nyberg\, who examines permanence\, memory\, and the shifting value of objects through luminous oil on rigid panels; and Deborah Schlossman\, an ophthalmologist and painter who transforms ordinary objects into illusions of light and shadow with a limited palette and deliberate brushstrokes. Together\, they demonstrate that realism is not mere replication\, but a living dialogue between perception\, memory\, and the quiet poetry of the everyday. \nJoin us for the opening reception on Thursday\, August 13 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. \nDate and Time: Thursday\, August 13\, from 6-8 pm \nLocation: The Copley Society of Art \nRSVP HERE

SUMMARY:Reality Check with Julie Beck
DESCRIPTION:A no-nonsense fire-hose of information that includes everything you need to know to make better representational drawings and paintings\, led by Julie Beck\, the Assistant Director of the Academy of Realist Art\, Boston’s premier atelier training program. \nWhile being self taught is sometimes used as a badge of honor\, it’s often a coded excuse for lack of abilities. Julie knows this because she did the same thing. \nReceiving a classical atelier arts education is already strapping a rocket booster to your abilities\, but the reality is that very few have the ability to drop everything and attend an atelier full time or even part time. So even if you don’t have the ability to train at an atelier in person\, you can take this information and deep dive at your own pace into the many elements that are taught in technical training. Who needs four years of Atelier training when you have Julie cramming all this information into your face? \nAfter an in depth lecture\, Julie will roast a selection of paintings/drawings that were submitted in advance. \nNo fluff\, no frills\, no mercy. \n  \nDate: Saturday\, August 29th\, from 12:30 pm – 4 pm \nLocation: The Copley Society of Art\, 158 Newbury Street\, Boston\, MA 02116 \nCost: $95 \n  \nCo|So Artist Members\, Co|So Patrons\, and affiliates of the Academy of Realist Art Boston receive a 10% discount. \nThe sign-up deadline for this workshop is Friday\, August 21. \n  \nGET YOUR TICKET HERE \n
