Kat O'Connor revels in the idea that water replaces the traditional model's pedestal. Gravity is removed, and the figure can be viewed at unusual angles. Foreshortening of the figure becomes common, hands and feet moving forward, no longer encumbered by the need to support the weight of the body. O’Connor earned a BA in drawing with highest honors from Montana State University in 1990 and an MFA in painting from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1995. She has exhibited her work nationwide, including three solo shows at regional museums, and won numerous awards. Her work is included in many private and corporate collections and is currently represented by McGowan Fine Art in Concord, New Hampshire, Reynolds Fine Art in New Haven, Connecticut, and selectively at 1stdibs.com. She is a Copley Master of the Copley Society of Art in Boston, Massachusetts. Her work can be viewed online at www.katopaints.com. O’Connor currently teaches in the BA program at Worcester State University and has led independent painting workshops around the United States and in Greece and Italy. O’Connor lives with her husband, artist John Hyden, in Worcester, Massachusetts.
