Shining a Spotlight: Award Winners of The Measure of Light

Co|So has once again transformed its gallery into a sanctuary of perception. Our current juried exhibition, The Measure of Light, invites us to look closer at the intangible. Light isn’t just a tool for these artists, but rather is the subject, the narrator, and the architect of the worlds they create.

The exhibition, juried by Payal Thiffault and Michelle May, showcases how light can be both a measurable physical property and a deeply lived emotional experience. This show succeeds because it bridges the gap between the technical and the ethereal. We see this in works like Allison Krajcik’s Cascade of Promises, and Lori Mehta’s What the Day Remembers, which physically incorporates light into the construction of the piece.

At its core, The Measure of Light is a beautiful reminder of why we fall in love with our region over and over again. By embracing the tradition of the New England landscape painting they push into modern territory. Joreen Benbenek and Jeanne Rosier Smith masterfully captured that specific, crisp Atlantic glow that you can only find right here in our corner of the world.
