Co|So is proud to present Sandra Samaha’s Meditations in Paper, on view in the Upper Gallery from April 23 to May 23. Through multimedia collage, Samaha explores how layered images can represent the past, present and future; asking what is, what was, and what could be.
After studying printmaking at Skidmore College and the University of New Hampshire, Samaha began selling her serigraphs and etchings at local galleries. Frustrated with the limitations of her printing press and inspired by her love of quilts and woven textiles, she eventually discovered collage as a more natural medium for conveying her artistic visions.
Samaha sees collage as an empowering tool that allows her to navigate her faith and the complex ethical issues of our time. For twenty-five years Sandra taught art and art history at the high school level, often telling her students that “art is a reflection of the time period in which it was produced.” With an appreciation of the “slow read” inherent to the medium, Samaha notes that her collages are “like the truth we seek, requiring careful observation, investigation and contemplation to discern.”
We hope you’ll join us for the opening reception held at the gallery Thursday, April 23 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Stop by to meet the artist!
