Kristin Stashenko’s Comforting Interiors

By admin on October 26, 2017

Indoor spaces are places where people seek comfort, warmth, and solitude. Kristin Stashenko’s solo exhibition, “Spaces,” explores how interior spaces reflect one’s continuous search for well-being. As an escape from the outside world, Kristin Stashenko’s interiors provide solace with their radiant, welcoming atmospheres.

In creating her paintings for “Spaces,” Stashenko wanted to capture the architectural structures and emotion of a scene. She said that “architectural subjects and how the light interacts with surfaces has always inspired me to reproduce the mood they evoke.”

In defining the mood of her scenes, Kristin Stashenko explained that public and private locations elicit different emotional responses: “Our personal spaces define and comfort us, [but] public spaces often inspire and cause us to reflect on our culture: past, present and future.”

With subtle abstraction, Stashenko’s interiors offer a charming balance between familiarity and awe. Ultimately, each viewer forms their own personal experience with Stashenko’s paintings through exploration and interpretation.
