Lynette Shaw’s Aerial Museum

By Paige Roehrig on February 16, 2019

Lynette Shaw has spent her entire career in Boston bringing art to unexpected environments with the goal to unify the human experience. Aerial Museum is Shaw’s newest installation made with this belief in mind, taking art into a contemporary venue that invites the viewer to engage.

Shaw summarizes the thesis of her show, noting that this exhibit was able to “[bring] fine art into an unlikely environment creating a maze of brilliant color that blends organic and industrial materials to start a conversation.”

Lynette Shaw’s recent Aerial Museum installation was comprised of 21 eye-catching paintings suspended from the ceiling. Presented and commissioned by Boston Properties, it is the first exhibition to be held at the Pru in 2019.

The exhibit creates a maze of color throughout the Prudential Center, blending in within the industrial materials of the building while still creating a conversation of color. Her white strokes and marks blend in with the sunlight entering through the glass ceilings, making their presence feel completely organic.

Her use of organic shapes and strokes, illuminated with white, can be seen up close in this image of her current work.

Lynette Shaw received her BFA from Tufts University and went on to earn an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She has exhibited in public art institutions, museums, corporations, private collections, and galleries such as the Copley Society of Art.

Her work seeks to explore the relationship between fluidity and representation and seeks to give freedom to the soul of the canvas. The artist has found an organic synthesis of dimension and light that captures great depth and expression.

Congratulations to Lynette Shaw on being the first installation at the Prudential Center in 2019!
