The Copley Society of Art is pleased to announce Nature Present, the first solo exhibition in the United States by international artist Kate Taylor. An opening reception for the exhibit will be held Thursday, September 10th from 5:30 – 7:30 pm at the Copley Society of Art, located at 158 Newbury Street in Boston, MA.
Toronto-based Taylor received her BFA from the University of Western Ontario, and was featured in several solo and group shows throughout Canada. Influenced by artist Claude Monet and Dale Chihuly, her work has progressed from an exploration of organic nature through photography to abstraction of natural forms through paint. Taylor works primarily with a apalette knife, mixing acrylic colors directly on stained birch panels. She then coats the painted panel with a fine transparent resin. This unique treatment of the surface creates a prestine reflective finish, giving the artwork an added depth and texture.
Nature Present embodies Taylor’s interest in the human connection to the natural world. Her work celebrates the joy and exhilaration of various natural enviromments from her city garden to the vast wilderness. Taylor has collected stories from around the world about the human engagement with nature. These tales manifest themselves in her paintings, inviting the viewer to explore their connection to the world around them. Nature Present runs from September 10th through October 4th, 2015.
