Yuka Imata
About
For a first meeting or sitting Imata can travel to the client’s location, or the client can meet at her studio in New York. At that time, initial sketches are made and reference photographs taken of the subject to be painted. The artist prefers to work from life, though photographs can be used as a supplement tool when the client is not available or reduce number of sittings.
Basic procedure is first to create a full-scale drawing of the subject along with numerous smaller sketches of background elements. This can often be accomplished in few sittings or from reference.
(Additional sittings are always welcome. This full-scale drawing process does not apply to 8 x 10 size portraits). The drawing is then transferred to canvas or wood panel and the painting will be created in the studio based on the full-scale drawing, earlier sketches, and reference photographs. The portrait is completed within three to six months, then delivered to the client on an agreed upon date.
