Everett Raymond Kinstler

About

Everett Raymond Kinstler was born in N.Y.C in 1926. Among Kinstler’s more than 500 portraits are such well-known personalities as Carol Burnett, Betty Ford, Katharine Hepburn, Lady Bird Johnson, Tony Bennett, James Cagney, Placido Domingo, Gene Hackman, Paul Newman, Gregory Peck and John Wayne, authors Ayn Rand, Tennessee Williams and Tom Wolfe; astronauts Alan Shepard and Scott Carpenter.
Kinstler has painted over 50 U.S. Cabinet officers, more than any artist in the country’s history. Eight Presidents, including Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, and Donald Trump have posed for him. His portraits of Ford and Reagan are the official White House portraits. He has portrayed Secretaries of State Cyrus Vance, George Shultz and James Baker, and painted Harvard University president Drew Faust. The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery owns over 100 of his originals.
Kinstler requests a few sittings from life, at his studio or client’s location. At that time, he generally discusses pose, outfit, location of portrait, sketch and take photos. Depending on availability, three or four visits, (about two hours) he will take the time needed to complete the portrait.
