Shelley Thayer Layton

About

Shelly Thayer Layton encourages clients to visit her studio and gallery space in Norwell, Massachusetts but she is also available to travel to a client’s home or office. In the first meeting, the artist and client define the proposed portrait. Related details concerning procedure and framing are discussed at this time as well. A photo session is scheduled and the commission is begun by the artist. Approximately one-third of commissioned work completed by the artist are painted from pictures of deceased loved-ones or ancestors.
Shelly has been accepting portrait commissions since 1994. In addition to portraits, she creates genre paintings that often contain subject matter reflecting her love and knowledge of music. Her commissioned works include posthumous portraits from photographs (the most famous being that of John F. Kennedy, Jr. in the J.F.K. Museum on Cape Cod) and ancestral portraits from turn-of-the-century photography.
