A Controlled Illumination
This work presents itself initially as an empty frame unlit, inactive, and unresolved. The piece is only completed when the viewer is given a remote control that allows them to activate and adjust the light within the frame. Through this simple act, the viewer becomes an active participant, choosing how and whether to illuminate what is otherwise unseen.
Light here functions both as material and metaphor. It references information, technological systems, and the growing influence of artificial intelligence as a force that shapes perception, meaning, and future representation. The ability to control the light asks viewers to consider their own role in accepting, resisting, or shaping these systems as they increasingly mediate reality.
The illuminated image presented within the frame was generated using two different AI models. While each model produces a distinct output, the underlying narrative remains consistent suggesting that although tools and technologies may change, the structures guiding interpretation persist. Ultimately, the work frames light not as a neutral presence, but as a measured, chosen condition one that reflects both agency and consequence.
