My work is governed by my phobia of insects, while at the same time, driven by concepts of nostalgia, family, home, and culture. Through the bright colors I used in this piece, I represent a personal traumatic experience through a colorful lens, as it becomes the only way I can comfortably confront this past event. Through excluding the literal insect and including the feeling of fear, this piece creates an interesting dynamic between what the audience perceives and what I know that lies beneath the colors.
