Burning Convenience
$525.00
This piece of work is in response to the catastrophic Palisades fire in Los Angeles where a portion of my family calls home. In reflecting on this, and the extreme changes our planet is experiencing, I attempt to visualize the interconnectedness of our everyday choices of convenience and how they disrupt the natural cycle of life. Through the use of copper leaf, I represent the delicate state of our planet with a skeletonized birch leaf, which in contrast has been positioned over a bed of found plastic debris in place of the expected decaying organic matter of the forest floor. The found plastics have been selected to provoke the viewer to question their choices, looking carefully the viewer will even see a reflection of the leaf within the plastic debris. My current body of work is an attempt to create beautiful conversation starters, with the goal of instigating a moment of pause, or opportunity for dialogue, with the aim of moving us all towards making better choices for our planet and climate.
