My goal with this piece is to challenge the viewer’s perception of spiders as something to be afraid of. In many cultures, spiders are seen as a good omen, and symbolic of creativity, wisdom, and balance. This particular species of crab spider is nicknamed the “flower spider,” so I chose to arrange the four spiders into a symmetrical composition that highlights their elegance and beauty, with the hopes that the viewer first notices the floral-like design before realizing they are looking at spiders, seeing past their fears and appreciating the creatures in a new way.
