This painting was inspired by the poem “Icarus” by William Fields, which I read and collected in my mental file of ideas almost 30 years before painting this. The painting is about the themes in the poem, but it is also about collecting and compiling ideas, as the figure in the painting has collected and is compiling the feathers for his wings.
