The painting is meant to portray my Italian heritage on my mother’s side. From being biracial, I have struggled with my identity and growing up, I was always told about my great grandmother and how she was the only female in the family that had blue eyes. I loved looking at her and her beautiful eyes. As a result, I wanted to make a painting representing the loss of my great grandmother and how mourning never becomes easier no matter the duration of time that has passed. The flower represents the final flower I was given at her funeral and the black and white vines in the background are meant to emphasize the complex emotions during and after experiencing her passing away.
