In my series of paintings, drawings, and collages entitled “Material Work,” I create trompe l’oeil facsimiles of raw materials and tools such as wood, rulers, paper, and tape. I call into question the perceived value and artistic hierarchy of these materials, often using atypical painting surfaces. In this case, I juxtapose two wood products with vastly different associations and uses. This painting is intended to be displayed on the ground at approximately a 10 degree angle.
