Old Friends

Old Friends by Jeff Fioravanti

On splintered bench
We now rest,
Long past our summer days

The fresh cut grass,
Brings peace to heart,
Our Autumn chill’s at bay

Though we’ve lost a step
From younger years
When life was still a game

We’ve shared our best,
Endured our worse
True to each other we’ve remained.

And now in rest, worn,
Like tattered leather
And taped cracked bat end.

The cheers roll distant, faded
We’ve walked this path together,
In twilight grateful for memories…
…between old friends
