Alfred De Angelo
Over the years, I let my vision lead me from one group of paintings to the next, rather than trying to deliberately develop a 'style'. This has helped keep my art fresh by allowing me to carry over what I've learned from one aesthetic to the other.
Our experiences in life are usually localized and subjective, creating a series of impressions on a personal scale. I am continually developing a private vocabulary of images with which I attempt to express different aspects of these experiences.
With my surrealist paintings I try to look 'through' outward appearances and somehow embody the essential mystery of existence. My still life, flower and landscape paintings are simply the result of the joy of seeing expressed through the medium of paint.
