I am a contemporary painter working primarily in pastels. Pastels are my medium of choice because of their vibrancy, plus the variety of results pastels afford - blended, sharp, watery, solid, to name a few. I also enjoy the application (at times) of drawing and draftsmanship skills while working with pastels.
I work on a range of subjects, as it is a joy to discover the worlds within a still life as much as it is to dive into a breathtaking landscape. What draws me to any given subject is an appreciation for the moment in time, and a hope that it may be preserved.
Painting allows for direct participation with the beautiful light, color, shape and design observable in views both grand and intimate: I love painting because it makes me feel that I am a part of something larger than myself. I am also inspired by the experience of discovery that painting allows.
I received an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts & English from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY in 1999. After 18 years of working in media planning and sales in the advertising industry in New York City, I began to re-visit the arts and studied applied arts as well as architectural and design history at the New York School of Interior Design in Manhattan, NY. I also attended a short but intensive facilitated studio practice at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass, CO in the Winter of 2022 which provided further foundation for a career as an artist.
