Barbara Marder

Barbara Marder is an artist whose lifelong passion for art has been shaped by rigorous training, deep curiosity, and a commitment to craft. She works primarily in watercolor and glass enamel, two mediums that reflect her sensitivity to color, light, and surface. Marder earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Skidmore College and her Master of Fine Arts from Boston University, building a strong foundation that continues to inform her expressive and technical range.

Her artistic education was further enriched through additional studies at Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts, where close engagement with both fine art traditions and experimental approaches expanded her visual language. Marder has also participated in workshops with renowned masters of watercolor and enamel, experiences that sharpened her skills while encouraging personal exploration within each medium. Together, these influences contribute to a body of work that balances disciplined technique with a strong, individual voice.

Barbara Marder had a long career teaching K-12 visual arts for Somerville, MA public schools. She was a recognized master teacher with a certificate from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and served a term with the Arts Advisory Council for the MA Dept of Education and delivered workshops at national art education conferences.

Today she works as a full time artist dividing her time between her home watercolor studio and the enameling studio at Artisans Asylum in Allston, MA where she oversees the enameling kilns. Her work has been shown widely and received juried awards.
