Experimentation and attempting to break new ground visually have always been my touchstones. After a 40 year career as an instructor and visual art curriculum developer, I now paint full time. Promoting the craft and the education of the arts to generations of young people has been one of my greatest thrills. A personal journey with eye issues has only deepened my commitment to being an artist as I’m keenly interested in the science of seeing and drawing. My “omni-directional” mark making combined with colorist theory achieve a level of representation through abstraction (“complex in its simplicity”). And, an active role is asked of the viewer to optically mix the overlapping color. The landscape provides the best format for my pursuits, although I occasionally produce portraits.
Over the years I’ve divided my time between Canada and the United States - (Prince Edward Island, Canada, Deerfield and Northampton, Massachusetts) - exhibiting drawings and paintings, producing magazine illustrations, design and commissioned work.
