Jennifer Rand

Early on Jennifer Rand (b. 1970) saw the world with artist’s eyes. Like many, she looked the other way as it didn’t appear to be a practical life’s pursuit. In efforts to channel her creative energy into gainful employment she studied art history and interior design. In an era before computer-aided drafting, she learned technical and perspective drawing and rendering techniques. Then, in 2016, after a long and successful design career, she enrolled in classes at the Academy of Realist Art in Boston to learn traditional techniques in oil painting. She never looked back.

Jennifer’s works are primarily still life paintings with a whimsical twist. Her compositions draw the viewer in and encourage them to linger in the details as a story comes to life. In addition to still-life, she also takes commissions and regularly includes master copies in her practice. A recent Sargent copy of The Breakfast Table won Best in Show at Springbull Gallery's annual Fakes and Forgeries Show.

Although she only began exhibiting a few years ago, Jennifer's award-winning paintings have been accepted into juried shows throughout the Northeast, including The Guild of Boston Artists and the Salmagundi Club in New York City.

She firmly believes in academic training as the foundation for success as an artist, no matter the discipline or path. In the age of AI and disposable art, technical and observational skills, paired with the knowledge of the past are becoming ever more appreciated.

Jennifer lives in downtown Boston with her husband and enjoys traveling to Scotland to visit her son at university whenever she gets the chance.
