My favorite way of painting is en plein air -- the experience of working within the landscape is part of the painting's story. I convey my own sense of subject (landscape, architecture, still life) through suggestion and impression as well as careful rendering. I love the luminous quality of watercolors, as well as the freshness and clarity of this medium; I work with the paints to show their transparency, fluidity, and vibrant color. In my watercolor house portraits, I try to capture the character and details of the home as it relates to its surroundings. In my oil paintings, I aim for economy of composition -- the essentials, using quick, sure brush strokes to create shapes and textures.
