Kristin Stashenko

Kristin Stashenko is a painter living in Newport, Rhode Island where she
maintains a studio. Originally trained in scientific research with a Master”s
degree in Biology from Northeastern University, Kristin shifted her focus to her
life long passion for art, earning a degree in Illustration from the Massachusetts
College of Art and Design. She spent over 15 years as a commercial illustrator,
designing greeting cards and stationary, with many of her designs recognized as
top sellers. As testament to her success, Kristin was nominated for the
prestigious Louie Award for card design.
The artist turned her attention from commercial illustration to fine arts and began
exploring opaque media like gouache and acrylic. Her work emphasizes
composition, interesting geometry and contrasting color to express mood and
emotion.
Stashenko is a a signature member of several respected art organizations,
including the National Watercolor Society, New England Watercolor Society and
Rhode Island Watercolor Society. She is also an artist member of the Copley
Society and the Newport Artist’s Collective. Her art is exhibited at the Blue
Heron Gallery in Wellfleet, MA, the Copley Society of Art in Boston and the
Plymouth Center for the Arts. Kristin has been in numerous solo and group
shows as well as many International shows including the international shows of
the American Watercolor Society, the San Diego Watercolor Society and the
Pennsylvania Watercolor Society to name a few. She has won numerous
awards, both at International and local shows. Her work is held in numerous
private and corporate collections including the Langham Hotel, the Cambridge
Bank and the permanent collection of the Oregon Watercolor Society.
Kristin has served on the executive board of the New England Watercolor
Society for the last 6 years. In addition she chairs the Signature Members show
of the New England Watercolor Society, held yearly at the Guild of Boston Artists.
