Richard Drew Wortzel

My paintings reflect important moments in my life and the individuals and places that made these moments powerful. My subjects include people near and dear to me, the rolling hills through which I have walked, and the waterways on which I have traveled. My experience as a physician has cultured my sense of empathy and connectedness that I bring to my subjects, and the painting process further reinforces this relationship. I am inspired by the emotional impact of these narratives, as well as patterns of light -- which are captured by enthusiastic brushstrokes, vigorous palette knife swipes and passion.

My paintings have been featured in exhibitions in galleries and cultural centers in the United States, including the American Impressionist Society in Omaha, NE; the Schuler School of Fine Art in Baltimore, MD; the Camelback Gallery in Scottsdale, AZ; the Teravarna Art Gallery in Los Angeles, CA; the Gallery 4% in San Francisco, CA; the Center for Emerging Visual Artists in Philadelphia, PA; the Da Vinci Art Alliance in Philadelphia, PA; the New Hope Arts Center in New Hope, PA; the Canal Gallery in Washington Crossing, PA; and the Countryside Gallery in Newtown, PA, where in 2027 I will have a solo exhibition.
