Selin Selman

Selin is a contemporary representational painter whose vibrant and expressive works explore the intricate tension between public and private identities in the digital age. Drawing exclusively from her personal smartphone photographs, particularly "unacknowledged" selfies and performative social media food images, she transforms these fleeting moments of modern life into painted forms. Characterized by visible brushstrokes and a bold, non-realist application of color, her art invites viewers to reflect on our mediated perceptions of self. A lifelong maker, Selin blends an analytical background in Mechanical Engineering from MIT with her dedicated artistic practice. Selin lives and works in Boston's South End.
