At the MFA, Pastel painting with Jeanne Rosier Smith

By admin on October 27, 2016

We are thrilled to announce that Copley Artist Jeanne Rosier Smith will be holding two artist demonstrations at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Join her on Sunday, November 13th, from 12:00pm – 3:00pm or Wednesday, November 16th from 5:30pm – 8:00 pm for “Pastel Painting with Jeanne Rosier Smith”. Held in conjunction with the MFA’s William Merritt Chase exhibition, Smith will be painting pastel landscapes while comparing techniques from the 1800s to the present. We encourage you to attend this engaging talk and demonstration, and paint a small pastel painting of your own!

Chase created paintings in both oil and pastel in an impressionistic style. His painterly use of pastel was quite unlike anyone else of his time. Smith is: “…thrilled to be painting at the MFA, especially in association with the William Merritt Chase truly stunning exhibit.” She will be working on paintings in process to show her method of creating a pastel painting from start to finish. During the demonstration, Jeanne will talk about the differences and innovations in materials from Chase’s time to now.

A master landscape artist, Smith is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and the American Association of Marine Artists.
