With our new wreath and Christmas lights, we’re feeling festive in the gallery! Co| So will be closed for our holiday break from December 25th – January 3rd. We’ll return in the new year with two exciting new exhibitions: our New Members’ Show 2017 in the upper gallery and our Small Works: Shake It Up exhibition in the lower gallery. Both shows will open January 12th with a reception at the gallery from 5:30-7:30pm. We hope to see you there!
In the meantime, there are still a few days to see our Holiday Small Works 2016 and Miniature Moments exhibitions. Both exhibitions close on the 24th, so stop by Co|So for some last minute Christmas shopping! Original art makes a unique, special gift.

Janice Owen-Toth, Garden in Bloom, oil on canvas, 9 x 11
As we’ve been hit by our first snowstorm of the winter, it’s nice to look back at a time when the Boston Public Garden was still warm and sunny. Toth captures the familiar elements of the park – including the Japanese cherry trees, the lagoon, and the suspension bridge – in soft pastel shades. The result is an inviting glimpse at a peaceful walk through the park on a spring day.
Marilene Sawaf, A Busy Afternoon, acrylic on panel, 8 x 10
Looking at A Busy Afternoon, you might be reminded of the ornate stained-glass windows found in churches. In her artist statement, Sawaf notes her other inspirations: “The Venetian arcades in the background are inspired by the Lebanese homes of the nineteenth century and a reminder of my years spent studying architecture. Windows are important in my paintings as are tapestry designs, flowers, Medieval elements and any types of Persian, Middle Eastern, and iconic imagery.” It is easy to find yourself lost in the jewel-toned, dreamy worlds of Sawaf’s paintings.
Jeffrey Hayes, Orange and Sliced Lemon, oil, each 3 x 3
Jeffrey Hayes plays with scale in his whimsical miniatures. Fruit, normally small, appear massive in his pint-sized paintings, taking up nearly the entire surface. This allows Hayes to focus on small details, including the seeds in the lemon and the reflection of the light on the orange. These tiny paintings would look great in your kitchen as the perfect accompaniments to your fruit bowl!
